Abstract

Memes are one of the media to convey something. However, the things conveyed in memes are often unwritten which makes some people unable to understand the intent of the contents of the meme. To understand it we must also understand the context. Therefore the appropriate analysis to understand it is through a pragmatic study in the form of implicature. In this study, researchers only focused on non-conventional implicatures in Grice's theory. Therefore, this study aims to explain the form of non-conventional implicatures and the implicit intent or purpose of Arabic memes in the Twitter social media accounts @egyptianmeme and @memesOficiial and determine the function of the memes made. The theory used in this study is Grice's theory which focuses on one type of implicature, namely unconventional implicature. In this study, researchers used a descriptive qualitative method. The results of this study are that there are five non-conventional Arabic memes that have a purpose or implied intent by adjusting the actual context and there is a function for each of these memes.
