Abstract

The purpose of this study was first to determine the results of the reading skills of class VIII MTS Al-Mujtahid students before the application of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC), the second to determine the results of reading skills of class VIII students of MTS Al-Mujtahid after the application of the CIRC learning method and third to determine the effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) in improving skills. Reading grade VIII MTS Al-Mujtahid students. This research belongs to the type of quantitative research and the method used in this research is the Pre-Experimental method. This study uses the One Group Pretest-posttest Design Experiment. The object of this research is classed VIII students with a total of 38 students. Based on the results of the study (1) Students' reading skills before applying the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) in the pretest obtained an average student score of 57.71 with a KKM completeness standard of 77. Students with a complete score of 4 people or only 10.5%, while the incomplete as many as 34 people or 89.5%. (2) The results of students' reading skills after applying the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) in the posttest, the students' scores increased by an average of 85.74. All students get a complete score of 38 people with a percentage of 100% with a KKM 77. (3) The application of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) has a significant effect on students' reading skills with sig.(2-Tailed) 0.000 < 0.025 with the conclusion that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. There is an effect on students' reading skills after the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method is applied.
