Praktik Guru dan Respons Siswa dalam Pembelajaran Mahārah Qirā’ah: Tinjauan Evaluatif di MTs Raudlatut Tholabah Kediri

Abstract

The teaching of maharah qira’ah is a fundamental component in mastering the Arabic language. However, its implementation often faces various challenges, such as students’ limited ability to comprehend texts, restricted vocabulary mastery, and their tendency to feel afraid of making reading mistakes. This study aims to evaluate teacher practices and student responses in maharah qira’ah learning at MTS Raudlatut Thalabah. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-evaluative design. Data were collected through classroom observations and interviews, while data analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal three main points. First, teachers apply contextual and gradual reading strategies, such as identifying key vocabulary (mufradat), explaining sentences structures, and providing correct reading models. Second, teacher feedback is given directly, clearly, and in a detailed manner, helping students understand their mistakes in terms of articulation, vowel length, and text interpretation. Third, student responses are divided into two categories: negative responses, including fear of making mistakes, confusion when encountering new vocabulary, and hesitation in pronunciation, and positive responses, such as improved comprehension, increased reading fluency, and greater comfort due to the teacher’s supportive approach. Fourth, an evaluation of the overall effectiveness of maharah qira’ah learning shows that the strategies and feedback used by the teacher successfully build students confidence and basic reading ability, although the learning process still requires more structured materials and intensified vocabulary reinforcement to support long-term progress.This study concludes that teaching strategies and the quality of teacher feedback significantly influence students’ reading development and participation in maharah qira’ah learning
