EKSPLORASI AKTIVITAS ETNOMATEMATIKA PADA BAJU BODO PAKAIAN ADAT SUKU BUGIS

Abstract

One that bridges education and culture, especially mathematics education, is ethnomathematics. The nature of mathematics tends to be linear and rigid but when integrated with something soft like culture, it becomes flexible. This research explores ethnomathematics activities on the traditional wedding clothes of the Bugis tribe which have various components that illustrate several mathematical concepts. This research uses qualitative research with an ethnographic approach to investigate and obtain an in-depth description and analysis of a cultural group based on fieldwork in a certain period of time intensively. Determination of the subject of this study using purposive sampling technique, namely sampling with certain considerations. The results showed that baju bodo includes several ethnomathematics activities including counting activities on baju bodo and its accessories found to have an odd number of components, measuring activities with the size used in baju bodo components such as clothes, sarongs, arm bands and waist bands using non-standard units, namely cubits or equal to the size of one adult's palm, design activities by paying attention to the shape of each component as well as patterns on the clothes found the shape of the pattern and geometric design motifs that dominate some components of the bodo clothes and on the subordinate cloth of the bodo clothes have a plaid motif that is symmetrical flat shapes, and the activity of explaining the local meaning of each component of the bodo clothes in terms of how it is measured, the odd number of components, the reason for the shape and color of each component of the bodo clothes. This study shows several ethnomathematics activities contained in the components of the bodo shirt including counting activities, measuring activities, designing activities and explaining activities.
