Aims and Scope
Al-Aqad: Journal of Shariah Economic Law is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the Shariah Economic Law Study Program, Faculty of Shariah, IAIN Pontianak. The journal is dedicated to publishing original, high-quality research on Islamic law and sharia economics, with a particular focus on the legal dimensions of business transactions, Islamic financial institutions, and contemporary economic practices. It promotes doctrinal and socio-legal scholarship that critically examines how Sharia economic law is interpreted, formalized, and applied within various institutional and transactional contexts. The journal welcomes contributions from academics, legal practitioners, and Sharia economic experts employing normative, empirical, and interdisciplinary approaches. The scope of the journal includes the following areas:
a. Islamic commercial and economic law (fiqh muamalah) – covering both formal and material legal aspects of transactions such as wadi’ah, qardh, mudharabah, musyarakah, muzara’ah and mukhabarah, ijarah, murabahah, salam and istisna’, musaqah, wakalah, kafalah, hiwalah, and ju’alah.
b. Sharia-based financial institutions – including legal frameworks governing Islamic banking, Islamic microfinance institutions, sharia insurance and re-insurance, sharia mutual funds, sharia bonds and medium-term securities, sharia securities, sharia financing, sharia pawnshops, sharia pension funds, and any other entities operating under the sharia label.
c. Sharia contracts and engagements – legal studies on the formulation, validity, and implementation of contracts compliant with Islamic law.
d. Sharia economic dispute resolution – examining litigation, arbitration, and other mechanisms for resolving disputes arising from sharia economic transactions.
